But you have to ask yourself if Anet is listening. It is logical to assume that they are listening if they care and it matters to them. Currently the thing that matters most to them is that people buy Guild Wars 2. That in turn leads to the conclusion that they don't care what you bitch and moan about as long as you buy Guild Wars 2, and if you aren't buying Guild Wars 2 they will listen to your concerns.

So who is NOT buying Guild Wars 2? I would also like to hear reasons for not buying it. If you don't include yourself on this list, your GW1 complaints IMO are worthless. The same company is making the sequel, and the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Perhaps if the list gets big enough Anet will start listening to the problems.
Anyone who doesn't buy guild wars 2 is seriously going to miss out on some epic epicness of epic proportion. I for one am going to buy 10 copies (not really). But can't wait.... I sure hope the assassin is added in early game and not through an expansion. That would anger me greatly lol.

Screenies - Check
Novel - Check (Anet is having more then one novel)

Lets compare:
SW:ToR has ingame footage for several classes and their skills, along with trailers. GW2 has 2 short trailers and some skill animations for ONE class. We only know about ONE class with GW2.

Screenies:
Again SW:ToR has many more screenshots which include gear and weapons. GW2 screenshots are just eye candy to generate hype

Novel:
Star Wars is an established franchise with solid history. GW's lore frankly became shit to me the second they decided the ultimate antagonists of GW2 would be dragons which destroy for no apparent reason. Human greed and flaws are much more interesting, which is reflected in Star Wars. And let's face it, every nerd likes a Star Wars book that's written well because of its solid lore. I myself will.

But none of these are relevant to what will make GW2 a successful or good game. Game design will make it a good game, and not pissing on your GW1 players (as Anet has done thus far) will make it successful. By pissing on GW1 players, I mean eliminating the scythe/spear as weapons in GW2, eliminating click to move, eliminating the playstyle of some (dedicated healer/protter), de-emphasizing grouping, and failing to provide high level support and consistent GW1 updates. GW2 may indeed be successful, but it won't be a game I'll be buying or one that is as innovative as the first was.

Maybe to you, but some of us like the idea of being against a foe who has no pity/conscience, and is just a ball of unrelenting hate and destructing who has nothing to loose.

then again, both have been done. Tell me when a truly original idea comes along. It won't, everthing been done over and over and over and over again. Doesn't mean I hate lore any more.

Well, the fact is that that's a naive image. Nothing is completely full of hate with nothing but malice in their hearts. Animals kill for food/self-preservation while people kill for more evolved yet similar reasons: revenge, money, success, self-preservation. All are self-motivated but none are aimed at just harming other people. It doesn't need to become a very nit-picky discussion, but even hitler (doesn't deserve a capitalization) was killing the Jewish people to both ensure his power and to make people believe that they would be economically better off. His goal was to kill, but his primary goal was to give a better life to the german people (and of course himself) as sick as it sounds.

The fact is that there is no "evil" or "good," they are both one and the same. Making an enemy as one-dimensional as the dragons just doesn't sit right with me. It makes it too easy while encouraging/promoting the superficial labels of "good" and "evil." But I suspect this is a bit off the deep end.

EDIT:
To further my point, Anet has called the dragons the main antagonists while also labelling them as "forces of nature." But guess what, nature isn't "evil." It's indifferent. Nature doesn't try to conquer, it just is. That the dragons are raising armies to somehow overrun the world is nothing like nature.

EDIT2:
"Nature can be capricious, but nature is not evil." Deepak Chopra

The split was purely to churn out follow-up campaigns, and it died with said campaigns.

If anything the Factions team probably did most of the EotN work. They were the ones who would have started utopia, and would have been doing conception and early implementation while nightfall was being finished. Although staffing probably changed up when they decided to make EotN an expansion and plan out GW2.

The major things that made factions "suck" were

1) Still focused on pushing PvP that most customers didn't want, instead of delivering a solid PvE campaign.

2) First campaign they made on such a short time-frame. Much experience from that went into polishing NF.
Fair comments.

ANET decided to include this feature by manifesting it in the business model rather than the game itself.

I played Lineage 2 and some other free MMOs for years, then I gave up the genre. Recently got the GW trilogy on Steam due to be only 19 bucks and no fee. Now I'm a huge fan of these people who made this game. The world they created is beautiful and immense. Sometimes I forget about quests and just go around exploring new areas, there's always a landscape that blow my mind away. The game is very polished, and the art is coherent, little characteristic that you won't find in most of MMO. I don't even think it's a MMO. So yeah, I still have to try the PvP, but being able to explore Tyria, Elona and Cantha, and see all the life in it, it's already more than what I could expect from a game.

Long live Arena Net!

Will I get GW2? I hope to have the chance to play this game, I'm sure it'll be another visual intense experience. This is just what I hope, but the future is something I cannot foresee.

Why does it matter what we know about either game? None of it will matter when both games are released and on the market, and that is what matters most.

There are some people in this thread that have listed some very reasonable reasons for why they aren't buying Guild Wars 2. Don't have time? Good reason. Don't like how Anet handled things in Guild Wars 1? Again, a fine reason.

However, there are others that sound like Guild Wars 2 is evil incarnate and want to see it crash and burn a fiery death for very silly reasons. That's what irks me.

And yet, Diablo 3, shrouded in mystery, to be released somewhere after 2012-13, has more lore, screenshots, skills shown, trailers and novels.

This thread, particularly this last page, is pretty funny now (after Gamescon and PAX).

The main thrust of a lot of the whining here seems to have been "I used to like GW when all the devs worked on it, but I don't like where it's gone since they've cut it back to 5 people, so I won't buy the game they had everyone working on and will support in the future." You're making Logic cry.

[edit]Sorry, I had to:

This is doubly funny now, after PAX.

Except most of it's not like that....

Honestly, I'm still pretty undecided. GW2 looks almost identical to WoW to me right now. Fear (a WoW condition), WvW (a WoW PvP format), Potions (WoW and many other games), 80 level cap (WoW again), the inventory and equipment (some of the icons in the demo are actually reskinned WoW equipment icons), etc. make me think that the GW2 creators just took Warcraft and gave it a GW2 skin.

With all of that said, GW2 still won't have a monthly fee, and really that's the only thing that prevents me from being a casual WoW player. So, I may pick up GW2 just to have a WoW clone, but I definitely won't be playing it for PvP, like I did GW1.

Unfortunately, with the death of GW1, there just won't be any good PvP MMOs out there anymore.

Ironically, both GW2 and Duke Nukem Forever had demos at PAX.

The one thing GW1 accomplished that WoW will never accomplish is equipment equity - and to me this has a big effect on play. Regardless of how much time I spend in GW1, if I've put in the relatively small amount of time necessary to get max armor level, weapon stats, runes, and skills, I will never come across someone whose stats are higher because they got a drop from a boss after raiding for the better part of a day.

In WoW, if I'm not raiding fairly constantly, I'm becoming less relatively powerful over time. If I wait long enough, I may be so far behind that I can't catch up without someone carrying me. I can (and did) put GW on the shelf for a year or so, but when I came back my armor hadn't depreciated. I didn't have to listen to a raid leader yell just so that I wouldn't be stuck in Tier 9.

Assuming they're following the same sort of reasoning in GW2, and I hope they are, this is one of the main reasons I'd choose GW2 over competitors - they're all Skinner boxes, but GW doesn't penalize your stats for not pushing the lever. They came close with PvE skills, of course, and these have become a major component of play, but it's not nearly as big an effect.

Press B. Watch HA or GvG. Anet has no idea what they are doing, and they were unwilling to listen to the people who did. I don't see that changing in WoW-clone, err GW2, so no, they're not getting my money.

I have no idea why this thread is considered absurd or off-topic.

Yes I will buy it the content posted for GW2 so far looks promising and I have played more hours on GW1 than any other computer game I have owned.

How soon I buy it depends on price I expect there to be a big price hike compared to what I paid for GW1 when it came out.

If I have the cash then the day its available
